I used a chicken egg for this! To start, I blew out the chicken egg (you can find TONS of tutorials on google if you dont know how that works). Then, I rinsed the egg and baked it at 200 degrees to dry out the inside of the egg and strengthen the shell. I used an extruder to create the long blue and green snakes of clay that I turned into spirals. After I covered the egg with the spirals and made the tree I baked it. Once it was baked and cooled, I broke out a bit of the exposed egg then soaked everything in a bath of plain white vinegar. About six hours later - the egg had magically disappeared! I did have to do a little bit of scraping to clean out some of the shell and membrane that had been left behind. When the egg was no more, all that was left was to hang the little polymer swing and this one was done!
As I mentioned, it was over a year ago when I made this, so I dont have any pictures of the process along the way. If you're interested in more details, let me know! I'll see if I can get a post together for you.
Thanks for stopping by! I love to hear what you think, please do leave comments if you have them!

That is super cool!!! Thanks so much for coming over to my blog, I've started following you as well :)
ReplyDeleteYay! So glad to have. I do hope I'll have something interesting to say from time to time. :) My free motion project (aka, wtheck!) will be posted soon. You might get a kick out of my misadventure. :)
DeleteThis is soooo awesome! I have a whole pile of polymer and I think I am going to have to give this a whirl. Gives me some ideas for christmas ornaments to make this year.
ReplyDeleteThese are really fun to make I have several of them that I'll be adding in the coming months. It is really limitless. Could you imagine one with a steampunk-y metal style, little bit of pearl-ex and a few findings = total awesomeness. :)
